Iranian state television announced the passing of Brig-Gen Zahedi, identifying him as a top commander of the Quds Force, the Revolutionary Guards’ branch responsible for foreign operations.

Eight persons were reported killed, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is based on a network of informants on the ground in Syria. The victims included five Revolutionary Guards personnel, two Iranian advisers, and a high-ranking Quds Force leader.
US President Joe Biden was made aware of the claims, according to a White House spokesperson, and his “team is looking into it”.
The Syrian ministry of defense said that while some of the missiles were shot down by air defenses, others managed to get through and “destroyed the entire building, killing and injuring everyone inside,” according to the ministry.
Without providing an exact number of victims or identifying any of them, the ministry just stated that efforts were underway to retrieve the deceased and rescue the injured from under the debris.
Syria’s Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, stated that “a number of innocent people” had been slain in “this heinous terrorist attack” and that he vehemently denounced it.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian “blamed the consequences of this action on the Zionist regime” and called the strike “a violation of all international obligations and conventions” during a phone discussion with Mr. Mekdad, according to the Iranian foreign ministry.
